2. Admission to the Course of Study

The prerequisites to follow a course of study at an institution of higher education are that you can provide evidence of the required qualifications for the course of study and that there are no hindrances to enrolment. The qualification for a course of study at an institution of higher education is demonstrated by the higher education entrance qualification.

Higher education admission authorisation

Not every higher education admission authorisation allows admission to all courses of studies. Generally the report states whether the qualification is valid only for specific course of study, types of institutions of higher education or Federal States.

In addition, gifted/talented persons or employed persons can be admitted to a course of studies under certain conditions. Foreign and other school-leaving Certificates of Education

Information regarding the recognition of other higher education entrance authorisation, in particular foreign ones, can be found in the procedure description “Accreditation of the Higher Education Admission Authorisation (foreign school-leaving Certificates)”.

Citizens of another European Union Member State also have to prove the required language proficiency for the course of study.

Possible additional admission prerequisites

Entrance examinations (Aufnahmeprüfungen) could be required to study certain courses of study which make particular demands on the students (e.g. courses of studies in the arts) in Baden-Württemberg in addition to the higher education entrance authorisation.

The proof of an industrial placement or a completed apprenticeship is required for some courses. Other courses on the other hand require special language proficiency (e.g. qualifications in Latin), language proficiency examination or sport examinations.
